Why a career in test automation?
Why do one thing you love when you can do three?
At Trinitatum, we love finding out how things work (or how they should work and if they do work). We love writing software, in various forms; it's creative and means we don't need to repeat ourselves while proving that systems work as they should. And, perhaps most of all, we love learning about, and operating in, the complex business world of energy trading.
Test automation, for us, means we don't have to choose; we get to combine all three on a daily basis. Just as soon as we get the warm feeling of satisfaction that comes from mastering a tool, technique or domain .... along comes another challenge and we know we won't be bored.
Why Trading & Risk Management?
Trading has been around since Homo Habilis first swapped an antelope leg for a better stone axe. The complex trading systems that exist today are of staggering complexity and provide on-going intellectual challenges that offer a rich and rewarding career.
However, "casino banks" come and go; some spectacularly so, and with devastating effect. One man's financial engineering is another's weapon of financial mass destruction.
And yet throughout the financial crisis, as investment banks failed left and right, two types of organisations prevailed:
Firstly, people continued to trade energy. Energy is traded because it is has genuine utility; not merely for the transient, and occasionally doomed, pursuit of money. Come the next financial crisis (and there will be one) people will continue: to need electricity to power devices; to burn gas to heat their homes; to use crude oil to fuel container ships and kerosene to keep aircraft in the sky.
Secondly, prudently run organisations with solid approaches to risk management were able to survice the economic challenges. These organisations rely on robust trading & risk management systems to protect and grow their businesses, Moreover they rely on the ability to extend and grow these systems with confidence, and therefore efficient and adaptive approaches to quality assurance are key.
In the world of trading & risk management you will become familiar with futures & options, swaps & collars, profit & loss; just as you would in any trading environment. But you will understand how backwardation and contango in the oil markets drive the price of the fuel in your car. You will understand how gas moves from distant locations to your home, and how/why to hedge weather.
And after 10, 20, even 30 years... you will still be learning.
Why Trinitatum?
We are not a one-size-fits-all consultancy and that applies as much to the way we treat our employees as it does to our clients. Our reputation within the industry is founded on the cumulative successes of individuals over many years, and we never lose sight of the fact that the knowledge and integrity of our consultants is our single biggest asset.
Why be a small cog in a large wheel, when you can help shape your future and our future?
What can you expect?
You might be glad to see the back of a text book when you graduate, but if you want to see the back of learning then you're not for us, and we're not for you.
You can expect to keep learning, but you can also expect to surprise yourself at how quickly you can apply that knowledge. We will invest in your training and then you will be working alongside a senior consultant on a real project. He or she will supervise your work and coach you in the relevant technical and subject areas.
With our investment in you, you can expect the kind of job satisfaction that comes from being a valued member of a team, solving complex problems and making a positive contribution to our clients' businesses.
In normal times our UK-based roles the normal place of work will be our office in London, or one of our London-based clients. In the current climate we will provide remote training
What do we expect?
Our consultants are an eclectic bunch, but what they all have in common is a desire to automate. Automation means using software to test software. You will therefore have a degree in a computing discipline (1st class or upper second) and be comfortable programming in Java or C#, as well as proficient with databases and SQL.
You will be inquisitive and analytical. Details won't scare you, but equally you will be able to see the big picture.
Part of our interview process involves a practical discussion about an example system, because we are more interested in your thought processes and the speed with which you can get to grips with an unfamiliar domain, than ticking off items on your CV.
How to Apply?
If you have a 1 st class or 2.1 degree in a computing discipline then send a CV and a short letter indicating why you are a good fit with Trinitatum to graduate-recruitment@trinitatum.com.
Note : we are only able to accept applications from candidates that are eligible to work in the UK.
