Stabilizing Endur testing for faster, safer releases

The challenge

A large American energy company had automated testing in place for its Endur platform, but it had stopped doing the job. The test suite was slow to set up, painful to maintain, and so sensitive to interface changes that small updates broke tests across the board.

Testing had become less about confidence and more about managing instability. Every release meant more troubleshooting, less trust in the results.

The solution

Trinitatum introduced Triangle, with a clear principle: rather than rebuild the existing test suite, help the client's team build something more stable themselves.

The team translated key test cases into Triangle using a data-driven approach, where tests are driven by inputs and expected outcomes rather than fragile clicks through the user interface. This meant tests no longer broke every time the screen changed.

Two techniques carried the work:

  • Expected-result validation, confirming the system produced the right output for a given input.

  • Side-by-side comparison, running the old and new systems together to confirm outputs matched.

Together, these let the team validate new functionality, compare results across environments, and move away from UI-driven scripts that were brittle by design.

Training ran alongside the build, so the client's team could extend and maintain the suite independently from day one.

The results

Within a few months:
  • A stable, maintainable testing approach was in place.
  • Teams could validate releases with real confidence.
  • Triangle became part of the regular release process.
  • Time lost to broken automation dropped significantly.
  • Testing shifted from reactive and fragile to structured and reliable.

Why Trinitatum?

The starting point wasn't a tool swap. It was a question: what does this team need to test well, on their own, for the long term? The answer shaped everything that followed, from the choice of approach to the emphasis on training.

Testimonial

“The training gave our team the confidence to build and maintain tests independently, and we're already seeing the benefits as Triangle becomes part of our release process.”
